Honda will also show the DN-01 Touring Concept, the EVE-neo and EV Cub, their first electric scooters, and the CB1300 Super Four, CB1300 Super Touring and CB1300 Bol d’Or. Of course, there will also be the new VFR1200F, which is due to be officially unveiled on the 8th of this month. Sure looks like the Honda stand at this year’s Tokyo Show will be totally action-packed.

The engine should get a little extra pep from that new exhaust, but no other mechanical mods are reported. It’s probably because the motor is a new design for Honda—an air-cooled DOHC inline four—so Mugen can’t employ the go-fast parts it’s developed for other Hondas.

Chevrolet Cruze's body structure is among the stiffest in its class, with a torsional rigidity 140% greater than that of its predecessor. The car has been co-operatively engineered at GM facilities in Germany, the United States, Australia and Korea. Efficient load paths provide maximum occupant protection in the event of an impact from virtually any direction. Full-length beams and enhancements to the sills, B-pillars and A-pillars, through the use of high-strength steels and tailored blank processing, all contribute to the vehicle's excellent crashworthiness.

The Chevrolet Equinox and Terrain are essentially the same vehicle aside from sheetmetal. But the sheetmetal differs so greatly that “rebadge” is not appropriate. Though the Terrain’s chunky exterior has fans, you’d never know it from the comments at TTAC. The Equinox’s much more conventional exterior, in contrast, shouldn’t offend anyone. Though not striking, the second-generation Equinox is blandly attractive, if anything more so than any of its primary competitors. No one does a double take when a Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, or Volkswagen Tiguan crosses their path. The droopy headlights of which Chrysler and VW have been so fond lately make an unfortunate appearance on the Equinox as well, but this minor design faux pas pales next to the noses that various Japanese companies has been cursing their cars with lately.

The tested GMC Terrain’s black cloth had a bit much of a work truck vibe. The Chevrolet Equinox had the optional black and brown leather (also available in the GMC), and it makes for a much warmer, more luxurious, and altogether more attractive interior. Both models share a stylish, well-organized center stack complete with ambient lighting, red in the Terrain, blue in the Equinox. The Chevy’s blue is easier on the eyes. Most of the interior plastics are hard, and some appear lower rent than others, but this is typical of the price point. Overall, this is the segment’s best interior.

Like the Terrain, the Equinox combines the width of a compact crossover with the wheelbase and length of a midsize. Inside, this translates to modest shoulder room and exceptional legroom. Seats front and rear are moderately firm and comfortably contoured, and the rear cushion is high enough off the floor to provide adults with thigh support. Ironically, the distantly related Cadillac SRX pairs a larger number of rear seat amenities—rear vents with automatic controls, seat heaters—with a much more cramped, lower, and less comfortable rear seat.

Comparing the Chevy Cruze to hybrid cars without referencing city fuel economy simply makes no sense.A Cruze to better fuel economy. The Toyota Prius is rated at 48 mpg highway by the EPA, the Honda Insight 43 mpg. According to GM, the Chevy Cruze should achieve about 40 mpg highway, prompting CNN's Peter Valdes-Dapena yesterday to claim, "The automaker's new Chevrolet Cruze ECO will get very high gas --mileage without relying on any hybrid technology." And what about the Cruze's city fuel economy? That is largely the point of hybrid technology, right?

City fuel economy for the Prius is 51 mpg, and 40 mpg for the Insight. Yet, GM isn't even releasing its estimates for the Cruze's city fuel economy. I wonder why? Might it be that when overall fuel economy is compared, the Cruze simply won't compare to hybrid vehicles? Won't the Cruze be lucky to achieve even 30 mpg in the city?

The Cruze is a nice car, and it might be a great deal for highway commuters concerned with fuel economy, but if priced similarly to the Insight or the Prius, those concerned with fuel economy will do much better with a hybrid.

Instrumentation is lifted from the ZX-6R parts catalogue; it works well enough, but given this bike’s intended purpose, the addition of a full functioned trip computer would have been a nice touch. The mirrors are superb.
In my opinion, a bike like this without affordable factory sorted accessories is half baked. Thankfully, Kawasaki agree and offer colour coded Givi luggage specially designed for the Z1000, rounding out the package. The rear sub-frame of the Ninja 1000 was designed with luggage in mind and is much more robust than that seen on its nakedbike sibling. A $699 set of pannier brackets are required to fit the $660 panniers and the tubular brackets will prove an eyesore when the panniers are not mounted. This does reduce the amenity of the design somewhat; an integrated mounting solution that works with the machine’s styling when not mounted would have been a much smarter approach.

At $16,999 plus on road costs Kawasaki’s Ninja 1000 is not a budget sports-tourer in the vein of the capable Suzuki GSX1250FA and the like. Instead the Kawasaki straddles an affordable line between the bargain bikes and the much larger sports-tourers, like their own ZX-14.

The Ninja 1000 is another good option in the marketplace and well worth throwing a leg over at your local Kawasaki dealer if you are in the market for a sports-touring motorcycle or a semi-naked bike with an added does of real world practicality.

It's more fun that most of the bikes in this style of motorcycle, not as epically laugh out loud in your helmet entertaining as KTM's brilliant 990 SMT, but certainly a lot more larrikin than most. I reckon it’s a bit of a winner.

The Ninja 1000 engine was first released last year in the 2010 model Z1000 naked bike. Kawasaki claimed it was an all new motor specifically designed for street and performance riding, as opposed to a detune and massage of an existing sports powerplant. While the Z1000 was in fact first to be released, both models were developed from the outset, with production scheduling dictating that the nakedbike be released first.

To allow for the appreciably larger 19 litre tank (four litres more than Z1000), the Ninja 1000 sports a slightly smaller airbox than its naked cousin. Kawasaki still claim an identical 101.5kW (133hp) @ 9600rpm for the Ninja with 110N-m @ 7800rpm.

A particularly spirited morning run returned a shocking nine litres per 100km economy. Clearly, the Ninja 1000 enjoys a drink when you’re up it but this came back to around 7 litres per 100km in more sedate riding. Whilst this is still not great, it is manageable enough thanks to the 19 litre tank. I am sure on a long haul, a range of 300km would be easily achieved.

The Ninja runs four less teeth on the rear sprocket than the Z1000, to help lower rpm on the highway and aid fuel economy in comparison to the naked bike. This translates to 110km/h highway cruising at just under 5000rpm - a particularly sweet spot in the motor that combines with a very smooth on-off throttle response to make highway work, or commuting, a much less frenetic affair than its sibling.

Likewise the three-position adjustable screen, higher and closer bars and rubber mounted pegs help make the Ninja 1000 a friendly long distance mount. Legroom is generous while the close, straight positioning of the grips takes a while to get comfortable with. The screen is good but not to ‘true’ touring bike standard. It is certainly better than nothing and can be adjusted without tools.

There was a time when Kawasaki made some of the most practical road going sportsbikes with exciting engines and good road-tuned suspension, combined with friendly ergonomics. The 1998 through to 2003 ZX-9R Ninja machines and the last carburetted 636cc version of the ZX-6R in 2002 in particular, are awesome road bikes. Then Kawasaki followed the trend set by other manufacturers in producing a more hard edged focus in suspension and ergonomics, influenced by production category racing.

Manufacturers are gradually starting to realise that consumer demand has changed again, with punters wanting big sportsbike power combined with comfortable ergonomics and suspension that is well damped enough to iron out rough roads, yet perfectly competent when the pace hots up. Kawasaki’s latest effort at cracking this market is the new Ninja 1000.

Pressing the starter button for the first time as I geared up for a ride, Kawasaki’s new Ninja 1000 emitted a fairly pugnacious snarl as it sucked its first breaths through the airbox and fed the fuel-oxygen through to a quartet of hungry oval shaped 38mm Keihin throttle bodies.

You instantly feel that this is no lightweight in the engine department as more than a litre of four-cylinder goodness rasps its intent and eagerly awaits your command.

The V-Strom motorcycle is based on the V-twin engine initially designed for the Suzuki TL1000S and TL1000R motorcycles. It incorporates design elements from other Suzuki motorcycles including Fuel Injection based on the GSX-R models. A smaller-engined version, V-Strom 650 is also manufactured.
Kawasaki marketed an identical version of the bike named the KLV1000 in Europe.

The Suzuki Escudo (known as Sidekick in North America, Vitara in most of Western Europe, Bolivia, Ecuador, the Philippines, as well as North America after 1999 and the Grand Vitara in the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe, parts of South Asia and Australia) is an off-road vehicle that has been in production since 1988. The North American version was produced as a joint venture between Suzuki and General Motors known as CAMI. The vehicle was a follow-up to the popular SJ413 and Samurai. Also, this vehicle, while sold in North America, was designed to slot above the Samurai. A larger version is also made, known as the Suzuki Grand Escudo (known as Grand Vitara XL-7 in other markets). The name is derived from "escudo", the monetary unit of Cape Verde.

The Suzuki Grand Vitara is a small SUV that attempts to deliver the often mutually exclusive attributes of off-road ability and on-road comfort. In its first generation, the Grand Vitara featured a trucklike chassis, V6 power and low-range gearing. The new model has a similar powertrain but features a body structure that blends car and truck chassis designs.

Due to a variety of shortcomings, the original Grand Vitara did not achieve a great deal of success in the U.S. marketplace. The current model is greatly improved, however, and would be a good choice for a consumer interested in a comfortable and affordable compact SUV that can be used for typical daily urban purposes in addition to occasional recreational jaunts on dirt trails.

The LaCrosse made its debut in late 2004 as a 2005 model to replace the Century and Regal. Riding on a revised version of the W-body known as MS2000, the LaCrosse was initially available with two powerplant choices in three trim levels: a 3.8 L 3800 Series III V6 available in base CX and mid-level CXL forms, and a 3.6 L HFV6 V6 in the top line CXS model. Power is routed to the front wheels via a 4T65-E automatic transmission (4T65-E HD on Supers).
The name was inspired by a Buick concept car of the same name shown in 2000 and also used as a reference to the sport of lacrosse, seen as popular with a younger, more active demographic to which Buick sought to market.

Buick has been undergoing a reinvention of sorts, launching new models designed to reinvigorate its image and broaden its fan base. The Buick LaCrosse is one example of this strategy. Its name relates to the exciting sport of lacrosse, which is a hockey-like game played on a grass field. In French Canada, the word is rather naughty, so the LaCrosse is known as the Allure to our northern neighbors. Though the latest-generation LaCrosse is notably more dynamic than its predecessor, it still holds firm to the Buick qualities of a relatively cushy interior and a smooth, quiet ride.

Overall, any Buick LaCrosse offers a driving experience that will suit older, more traditional Buick drivers just fine, while the current LaCrosse may offer enough style and athleticism to appeal to somewhat younger ones as well. Shoppers interested in this type of car will also want to check out established front-wheel-drive rivals like the Acura TL, Lexus ES and Toyota Avalon, as well as the rear-wheel-drive Hyundai Genesis, before settling on the Buick. But we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the current LaCrosse to anyone in search of a comfortable yet capable large sedan.

The 2009 Saturn Aura Hybrid is only slightly cheaper than its hybrid-powered Japanese rivals, yet its fuel economy and acceleration are notably off the pace. Unless your heart is set on a GM hybrid sedan, we'd advise passing on this one.

Saturn Aura Hybrid
The Saturn Aura is a mid-size car produced under the Saturn brand of American automaker General Motors. It debuted as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show in January 2005. The production model of the Aura was shown at the 2006 New York Auto Show in April, with production commencing in North America in the summer of 2006 for the 2007 model year. The Aura replaced the Saturn L-Series, which was discontinued after the 2005 model year. Although Saturn had never intended to use the Aura name for the production vehicle, the name ended up sticking as a result of the popularity of the concept.
The Aura was considered an important model for both Saturn and General Motors. It was part of a product rejuvenation for Saturn intended to make the brand profitable as well as competitive with European imports. Reaction to the Aura was positive, both in terms of reviews and sales.
The Aura marked the first time since the mid-70's that GM's German division Opel had products sold in the United States. The Aura was based on the Opel Vectra midsize sedan.

Before Saturn bit the dust as a result of the 2009 GM bankruptcy fiasco, the Saturn Sky brought some welcome warmth and interest to the brand following years of lackluster products. A two-seat rear-drive roadster with a manually operated convertible top, the Sky rode on a platform shared with the Pontiac Solstice.

The Saturn Sky offered a respectable amount of bang for the buck, and its exterior styling turned heads almost as reliably as an exotic's. It also generated some serious speed in turbocharged form. Unfortunately, the Sky lacked refinement, and its reputation for reliability was also suspect. We would not recommend the Sky as a used-car purchase.

The Saturn Sky was a compact two-seat convertible produced from 2007-'09. It was available in two trim levels: base and Red Line. Standard equipment included the expected powered accessories, air-conditioning, a manual cloth top, 18-inch wheels, stability control and a limited-slip differential (as of 2008), and a six-speaker CD audio system ('08 saw the addition of satellite radio). The hot-rod Red Line model was similarly equipped but boasted unique interior and exterior accents, Bluetooth and a sport-tuned suspension with performance tires to go along with a high-output turbocharged engine.

Before Saturn was forced to fold its tent in the aftermath of GM's 2009 bankruptcy ordeal, one of its more interesting offerings was the second-generation Saturn Vue Hybrid. This compact crossover SUV wasn't much of a hybrid in terms of the technology used. Its wimpy electric motor could only power the vehicle up to speeds of about 3 mph, which is about human walking speed (a Toyota hybrid can typically achieve 30 mph on electricity alone). The Vue's electric motor was primarily used to restart the gas engine after it automatically shut down at a stop. In a world of Priuses and then-future Chevy Volts, this was dinosaur stuff.

Nonetheless, the Vue Hybrid got better gas mileage than its primary non-hybrid competitors (not to mention the regular four-cylinder Vue), and it cost less as well, thanks to Uncle Sam's tax credits on hybrid vehicles. Note that this praise is directed solely toward the second-generation Vue Hybrid, as the first-generation Vue Green Line (made only for 2007) was based on an aging design and was saddled with a crummy interior and forgettable driving dynamics.

Given Saturn's demise and the mechanical complexity of hybrid vehicles, we would advise staying away from used examples of even the second-generation the Vue Hybrid. It was a worthwhile vehicle in its day, but there are better ways to assuage your environmental conscience.

Saturn Outlook

Saturn Outlook
The Saturn Outlook was one of the four "Lambda" crossover SUVs in GM's stable until the 2009 bankruptcy fiasco, when the Saturn brand met its end. Like the other Lambda vehicles, the Outlook packaged the eight-passenger seating, cavernous cargo capacity and carlike driving character of a minivan into the more fashionable shell of a full-size crossover SUV.

Compared to traditional body-on-frame full-size SUVs, the unibody Outlook provided advantages in terms of ride, handling and fuel economy. Its advantages continued inside, where an attractive interior boasted seating for up to eight passengers and more than 100 cubic feet of available cargo space.

Saturn Outlook

Produced from 2007-'09, the Saturn Outlook was mechanically similar to the Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia crossover SUV family. Aside from styling, it was primarily differentiated with a lower price and lesser quality interior materials.

There were two trims, XE and XR. Included on the XE were alloy wheels, heated mirrors, power accessories, cruise control, front and rear climate controls, a CD/MP3 player with satellite radio (2009 only) and GM's OnStar service. The XR added dual exhaust, a power driver seat, a trip computer, steering-wheel audio controls, Bluetooth (2009 only) and wood trim.
